Nursing at the Drug Treatment Centre

The team is dedicated to:

  • Maintaining a high standard of nursing care
  • Providing effective care by assessing the individual needs of clients
  • Addressing the needs of clients in a non-judgemental manner, maintaining confidentiality and dignity
  • Health Promotion and Health Education

Our clinical role includes:

  • Informal counselling and advice
  • Allocating a keyworker for a caseload of clients
  • Serving as an advocate where necessary
  • Planning and updating careplans
  • Liaising with other services e.g.Hospitals, Prisons, Other drug treatment clinics
  • Referring to other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Initial assessment of clients
  • Discharge planning
  • Participation in on-going research projects and audits
  • On-going study days
  • Supervision and teaching of student nurses

Areas of Health promotion and Health education include:

  • Viral screening and general blood workup
  • Vaccinations
  • Contraception
  • Needle exchange, safe disposal of needles and syringes
  • Dressings
  • Injections eg. Inohep, depo-provera, antipsychotics.
  • Pregancy testing
  • Dispensing of methadone and medications.
